Located in the center of Seocheon, next to Gyeongbok Palace, Artspace Boan 1942 is a hub for all forms of cultural producers who participate in the contemporary culture today. Boan1942 functions as a cultural platform that both shelters and explores the ecology of creative practice in relationships to society, the individual, life and art. Rooted in the historical, cultural and social sense of place, tradition and spirit, Boan1942 promotes the local to global cultural exchange in the everyday. The new building is based upon the fundamental acts of culture (see, sleep, eat, walk and read) as the foundation that shapes and informs the characteristics of Boan1942 as an artspace.

사회와 개인, 삶과 예술의 관계를 모색하는 생활밀착형 예술공간

경복궁 옆 서촌의 중심에 자리한 ‘통의동 보안여관(artspace Boan1942)’은 1936년 시(詩)동인지 <시인부락>이 시작된 근대문학의 발상지이자 약 80여년간 나그네들의 쉼의 공간이었다. 2006년 부터 현재까지 동시대 문화를 만들어가는 문화예술생산자와 그 문화를 사랑하고 향유하는 사람들의 공간으로 사용 되고있다. 새로운 컨셉트의 신축공간 ‘보안1942(Boan1942)’는 ‘통의동 보안여관’이 갖는 장소특성적 역사문화의 토대위에 바라보고 생각하기(see), 거주하기(sleep), 먹기(eat), 읽기(read), 걷기(walk) 라는 가장 기본적인 인간의 감성을 기반으로 한 보안스테이, 보안화원, 보안책방이 있는 복합문화예술 공간으로 2017년 새롭게 문을 열었다.
