play, pause, repeat는 신체, 광학장치, 시간의 관계를 탐구하는 프로젝트이다.
신체는 공연한다. 영상은 재생된다. 사진은 시간과 유희한다. 신체는 잠시 멈춘다. 영상은 일시 정지한다. 사진은 시간을 유예한다. 영상은 다시 재생된다. 사진은 시간을 반복한다. 신체는 자기 자신을 기억한다.
예술은 어떻게 시간의 수수께끼에 도전하는 것일까? 시간은 필연적 반복일까 우연적 사건일까? 시간은 나 자신의 것일까 타자의 것일까? 인간의 시간과 기계의 시간, 작가의 시간과 퍼포머의 시간, 작품의 시간과 관객의 시간은 서로 어떤 관계를 맺고 있을까? play, pause, repeat는 송주원, 이양희, 전명은 세 작가의 작품을 통해 이 질문들을 던진다.
The project play, pause, repeat explores the relationship between the body, optical apparatus, and time.
Bodies perform. Videos are played. Photographs sport with time. Bodies pause. Videos are paused. Photographs suspend time. Videos are played again. Photographs repeat time. Bodies remember themselves.
How does art challenge the enigma of time? Is time an inevitable repetition or an accidental event? Is time my own or Others’? What is the relationship between the time of humans and machines, of artists and performers, of artworks and audiences?
play, pause, repeat asks these questions through the works of three artists: Eun Chun, Joowon Song, and Yanghee Lee.
